Product Review:Nioxin Cleanser and Scalp Conditioner

It has been a while since I spotted any good shampoo and conditioner combo at Costco until I saw The Nioxin Cleanser and Scalp Conditioner - System 1.

I was just researching on shampoos since I was running out of shampoo and I thought it has been quite a while since I try a new shampoo and I was looking at shampoos that promote hair growth (since I seem to notice more hair fall in recent months) and the Nioxin Cleanser was one of the 9 shampoos mentioned by an ELLE article titled " 9 Shampoos for Hair Growth that Actually Work", so I got it when I saw it at Costco.

It is also available online (Amazon and Nioxin company site and all leading specialist shampoo stores, including hair salons but the price at Costco is of course the best! I got the duo for only C$39.99 + tax.

The Product

According to the Nioxin's website, System 1 is specially formulated as a hair thickening treatment, delivering denser-looking hair. It reduces hair loss due to breakage and strengthens the hair, while refreshing the scalp and delivering a healthy shine to natural hair with light thinning.

The Technologies behind System 1:

For Derma: Active- Renewal- helps to remove follicle-clogging sebum, fatty acids, environmental residues from scalp and hair.

For Density: Bioamp -  helps to provide hair resilience and control moisture balance.

For Diameter: Transactive Delivery System - provides Thicker hair

Overall, Nioxin strongly believes that healthy scalp is essential to having healthy hair.

My experience

Both the shampoo and conditioner smells really good, like  chocolate mint. The shampoo lathers very well but do be careful when pouring it out as the design of cap makes it easy to pour too much if you are not aware. My hair feels squeaky clean after the shampoo and conditioner. After blow dry, my hair feels comfortable and light. A surprisingly pleasant experience.

Verdict

I LOVE it! In fact, I am replacing the ABBA shampoo and conditioner with the Nioxin Cleaner and Scalp conditioner.

Product Review: ABBA Pure Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner - The Natural Shampoo and Conditioner combo that work!

I can't believe that I have not blogged about this amazing shampoo and conditioner combo: ABBA Pure Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner.

The sales lady at a specialist shampoo store recommended this shampoo and conditioner combo to me when I asked her for a natural shampoo that still lathered up and a good conditioner to go with it.  I was getting frustrated with my existing shampoos and conditioners. My hair was limp and dry. On top of that, I had a birthmark on my head and it was itching like crazy. I though it may have something to do with some of the chemicals in my last shampoo.

It is available online (Amazon and the company store @ www.pureabba.com) and all leading specialist shampoo stores, including hair salons. It comes in 2 sizes: the 8oz/ 236ml or the 33.8oz/1L.
Seriously, do they use oz or ml? Odd sizes.

The Product

According to the website, the key botanicals are Olive Butter, Peppermint Oil, ProQuinoa Complex™.

Where possible, all ABBA® products are formulated to be 100% Vegan, Gluten-Free and made without Parabens*, DEA*, Phathalates, Synthetic Color Additives, Sulfates and Sodium Chlorides.

ABBA® has a strict policy that animals can NEVER be used for testing in the creation, development or formulation of our products.

The ProQuinoa Complex™ combines the best of pure ingredients with optimal performance. We also use cutting-edge surfactants in our shampoos (except Detox Shampoo) that are so gentle you can use the shampoos as a body wash. Formulating with mild surfactants also protects hair longer and helps maintain color by not stripping the hair daily.

The ProQuinoa Complex™ formulas unite the power of three powerful proteins, Quinoa, Barley and Soy, to strengthen and repair damaged hair.

QUINOA: A complete protein that contains eight essential amino acids to bring moisture and strength to each strand of hair.

BARLEY: A food-grade protein that infuses hair with lasting moisture.

SOY: This special protein delivers body and control to even the most stubborn hair and does not contain any gluten.

My experience

Maybe it is the food grade ingredients, the shampoo and conditioner smells yummy. Despite not having a load of chemicals, the shampoo lathers up decently and the shampoo and and conditioning experience was amazing.

Verdict

I LOVE it! My hair was clean and soft after just one wash and stayed that way until my shampoo the next day. The ABBA Pure Moisture Shampoo and conditioner combo definitely deserves a spot in the crowded shampoo shelve in my bathroom. In fact, it was so popular that it went out of stock for 2 months! Definitely get the 1L one if you have the space.

Product Review: Crabtree & Evelyn's Gardeners Ultra Moisturising Hand Therapy - The solution to dry and cracked hands!

It has been a pretty dry winter so far. If you have not been vigilant in applying body/hand lotion, chances are your hands are very dry and probably feeling really uncomfortable. At least that was what happened to my husband 2 weeks ago. Why the use of "was"? This is because his problem has been solved by Crabtree & Evelyn's Gardeners ultra-moistursing Hand Therapy within few applications.

After getting fantastic prices for my previously blogged Crabtree & Evelyn's bath gels and body lotions, I went back to Crabtree & Evelyn's store @ the MacArthur's Outlet in Vancouver on Boxing Day. The sale was MUCH BETTER than that on Black Friday. We bought the Gardener's ultra-moisturing Hand Therapy at a buy 2 and get 1 free promotion together with an additional 40% off all purchases. The usual price is C$25 for the 100g or 3 oz version, that worked out to C$10 each before tax.  A pretty decent price for an amazing and effective hand cream.

The Product

According to the website, the Gardeners ultra-moisturing Hand Therapy is infused with macadamia nut oil and shea butter. It contains hydrating ceramics and anti-oxidant-rich vitamin E, Myrrh extract that helps condition nails and cuticles and is formulated without mineral oil, parabens or propylene glycol.

My experience

I was expecting a pretty dull scent from the name but no, it smells like an upmarket men's cologne. Very pleasant and light.  The hand cream is lotion feels very rich upon initial application, massage it into your hands and nails and it gets absorbed pretty quickly so you feel moisturized (think silky) but not oily or sticky. You can feel its effect upon immediate application. My husband is usually someone who cannot be bothered with hand creams but he likes the Gardeners so much that he applies it a few times a day and after a week, his hands are feeling more moisturized than mine.

Verdict

I LOVE it! This is definitely going to be our go-to hand cream from now on. It is also the perfect gift for dudes who can't be bothered to hand creams despite having dry and cracked hands. My husband's dry and cracked hands problems were solved within a few applications. :) It is more than a hand cream, it is a hand therapy indeed! Honestly, even at C$25, it is worth every penny.
